8th annual Town of Caroline Roadside and Ditch clean up
Spring 2025
Sponsored by the Town of Caroline Watershed Committee
Pick up supplies:
Sat, April 26 from 9 am to noon at the Brooktondale Community Center 524 Valley Rd
Or at
53 White Church Road front porch – leave your name, contact, and what supplies you took
Garbage bags and disposable gloves are provided, and you can borrow safety vests and grabbers
Roadside litter you collect will be accepted by the Town Highway Department for disposal between April 28 – May 3
Mon – Thurs, 6:30 am – 4 pm .Fri 7 am – 2 pm, Sat, 7 am – noon.
This coincides with the Highway Department Junk clean up week. Please See the Town of Caroline website for details.
If you are so inclined, you may take care of the trash disposal yourself.
When you are done, please return vests and grabbers to the front porch of
53 White Church Road so others can borrow them
Your efforts demonstrate pride in our community and concern for the health of all creatures!
Our goal is 2-fold: to beautify our Town and to keep the trash out of the waterways.
New to Town Clean up ? Send Lucy an email with questions, what road you would like to clean up, If you would like to be assigned a road, etc.
Email Lucy at LFG1@cornell.edu to report how many bags of trash you collected!!!
Or write it on the form when you return borrowed items. Please send photos!!
Some safety tips and other info:
-This is a fun family activity – children should always be accompanied by adults
-Dress in bright colors
-walk facing traffic, collecting on one side of the road at a time
-Wear gloves
-Wear close - toed, sturdy shoes/long pants and long sleeved shirts
-Carry water and bug repellent
Your safety comes first!
-Don’t risk your life trying to grab that out of reach piece of trash!!
-Do not pick up broken glass or anything questionable. Please report these to the Town of Caroline Highway Department. 607-539-7610
-If you find large items (TV’s, furniture, etc), note the location and report to the Town of Caroline Highway Department. The Highway Department cannot accept tires.
-Do not pick up needles, syringes, or other health hazards/questionable items. Note the location and report to Tompkins County Sheriff’s office at 607-272-2444
-Recyclable items. If returnable cans are clean and not crushed, they could be redeemed. Unless the recyclable item can be made free of dirt and debris it is not recyclable. It is trash. We will not be collecting them separately. It is up to you If you want to keep them separate .and recycle them .

Our goal: To keep the garbage out of the waterways. Garbage tossed along the roadsides ends up in the ditches, which carries it to creeks and streams ,
such as Six Mile Creek and West Owego Creek
Pick up supplies on April 26, 9 am – noon, in front of the
Old Fire Hall at the Brooktondale Community Center

April 27- May 3, at 53 White Church Rd, front porch
clean up at your convenience until May 3
