Emergency Services
Purpose
To inventory the various first response and transport services structures, capabilities and needs that currently exist across the county.
To understand the costs associated with the various service structures and how those costs are paid.
To understand the legal and regulatory framework in which first response and transport services are provided.
To understand the training requirements and associated costs to maintain competent first response and transport services.
The Department of Emergency Response (DoER) oversees County-wide emergency dispatch and communications systems that allow residents to dial 9-1-1 to receive emergency medical, fire, police, or other emergency help from any phone within Tompkins County.
In coordination with Cayuga Health Systems & Upstate University, the Department coordinates training of emergency medical personnel. The Department also provides training for 16 fire departments through the Office of Fire Prevention and Control (OFPC) of New York State.
